Widespread cell phone and Internet outages have been reported in northeast Allegan County Tuesday.
Meanwhile, the Allegan County Sheriff’s Department posted on Facebook information that fiber had been cut, negatively impacting Martin-area residents who wanted to use the emergency 911 call service.
Posted on Facebook this afternoon was, “At 2:12pm Allegan County Central Dispatch was notified by AT&T of a fiber cut that occurred at 1:51pm. Customers served out of the Martin Central Office may be unable to make 9-1-1 calls. An estimated time of repair is not currently available. We will update this thread as we receive more information from AT&T.”
UPDATE: At 10:47pm AT&T said the fiber cut had been repaired and customers serviced by the Martin Central Office are now able to contact 9-1-1. Update: At 10:01 p.m.
ACCD COMMENT: “If memory serves us correctly, when this issue occurred in November of last year AT&T was the reporting party but the fiber cut was to an actual cell tower. Since a number of different providers can utilize the same cell tower it was more than just AT&T subscribers that were affected. We don’t have any further information on the extent or specifics of this incident (other than what we’ve provided) but figured that nugget of information may be helpful if you’re not an AT&T customer but are still experiencing issues.”
