The Wayland varsity baseball season was concluded Saturday in the district tournament with an 8-2 loss to Middleville Thornapple Kellogg.
The Trojans scored once in the opening and then erupted for a seven-run rally in the third to make all the difference in the contest. The Wildcats heled them scoreless the rest of the way, but it was too late.
Zach Brog had two hits and a run batted in, while Matt Schaendorf clouted a double and scored for Wayland.
“This group of seniors was an honor to work with,” said coach Mike Doupe. “Their contributions to the program were immense. They set the bar very high in terms of work ethic, focus, and love of the game, and we’re definitely going to miss them going forward.”
