Wildcat track teams to be in O-K Gold meet Friday

The Wayland boys’ varsity track team picked up three more dual meet victories Monday, but the girls lost two of three.

The boys beat non-league for Fruitport 127-0, Kenowa Hills 81-56 and Ottawa Hills 110-27. The girls blanked Fruitport, but lost to Kenowa 71-62 and Ottawa Hills 81-55.

Winning events for the guys were Kaharrie Pureifoy in the 100-meter dash (11:41) and the 200, 23.26); the 400-meter relay team of Terry Sylvester, Austin Graham, Cam Mouketou and Pureifoy in 44.74; the 800-meter relay with Aidan Reeder, Graham, Mouketou and Sylvester in 1:42.62; the 3200 relay with Dylan Pallett, Zachary Keena, Travis Moon and Devin Weaver in 9:15.01, and Adam Huff in the shot put at 44-9 and the discus in 139-11.

For the girls, Taylor Hoogewind finished first in the discus at 89-3 and Megan Stack and Laney Wolf went 1-2 in the pole vault, but the combined strength of Kenowa and Ottawa key any other individual Wildcats from taking firsts.

The Wildcat boys will be gunning for the O-K Gold Conference championship this Friday at Houseman Field in Grand Rapids. They are in a battle for the top spot.

The girls are hoping to welcome back school record holder freshman Evie Mathis in the pole vault after struggling with hamstring troubles, but they are strong in that event regardless with sophomore Kennedy Jasinski and Stack.
