Wayland High School senior first sacker Carli Miklusicak has done some pretty heavy hitting lately. She kept it up Monday by clouting a homer and driving in four runs in a 16-0 first game triumph over Kenowa Hills.
The Wildcats also blanked Kenowa 19-0 in game two of the O-K Gold Conference doubleheader to improve their overall record to 19-4, league record to 8-0 and extend their winning streak to 16 since that Bad Day at Bailey Park. So now they are 20-4.
Hurlers Madi Ludema and Harmony Laker both refused to give the Knights a single run.
The Wildcats scored nine runs in the second inning on the way to victory in the opener. Leadoff hitter Hannah Rairigh tripled, scoring one run, Lauren Wright singled, to score another, Laker doubled, scoring another, Reese Veltman singled, scoring two and Miklusicak doubled, scoring one run, Shelby VanHouten doubled, scoring one run. Rounding out the rally, Kaylee Lown laid down a sacrifice bunt, scoring one run, and Rairigh doubled, scoring one.
Madi Ludema was hit by a pitch, driving in a run, and Veltman singled, scoring two.
Wayland put the game out of reach in the third inning by plating four. Ludema doubled, scoring one run, and Miklusicak unloaded her three-run home run to left field.
Ludema fired a one-hit shutout, striking out seven and walking none.
Reese Veltman collected three hits in three at bats in the nightcap, as Wayland prevailed 19-0. Veltman singled in the first and twice more in the fourth inning.
The Wildcats opened the scoring in the top of the first thanks to three singles, one an RBI by Harmony Laker.
Madi Ludema doubled in the first run in a rally in the third inning. Miklusicak singled, Rairigh drew a walk to force in a run, an error led to two more tallies and Laker grounded out to score yet another run.
Wayland eight runs on six hits in the top of the fourth and ran away with the game. Izzy Johnson was struck by a pitch, driving in a run, Lauren Wright singled, scoring three runs, an error scored one run, Veltman singled, scoring one, and Miklusicak doubled, scoring two runs.
Laker gave up just one hit over four scoreless innings, striking out six and walking none.
Miklusicak and Veltman both collected three hits. Wright went led the team with five runs batted in. The Wildcats next will play an O-K Gold Conference game at Ottawa Hills Tuesday.
