Lady Vikings 1 win away from clinching Silver co-title

Caitlin Rodanhisler scored 15 points for the Lady Vikings.

If the Hopkins girls’ varsity basketball team can get past Kelloggsville Friday evening, it will clinch at least a share of the O-K Silver Conference championship.

The Lady Vikings took a major step toward reaching that goal Thursday night by winning a makeup contest against a surprisingly competitive homestanding Wyoming Godwin Heights quintet 65-58.
The victory lifted Hopkins’ league record to 7-1. With two games left, closest competitors Northpointe Christian and Calvin Christian both have two losses and are 6-2. Of course, a Lady Vikings’ triumph over Northpointe as well will hand them the Silver title.
Hopkins, which dropped a one-point heartbreaker to Calvin Christian Tuesday evening, was challenged throughout its grind-it-out win over the Wolverines Thursday. The Lady Vikings took a 17-14 lead in the first quarter and were up 30-27 at intermission. Godwin had pulled to within two, 46-44, to start the final period.
Hopkins was led by senior center Meghan Schulz with 20 points, Caitlin Rodanhisler with 15 and junior point guard Kennedy Helderop with nine. Schulz also had a whopping 26 rebounds and 11 blocked shots.
Godwin was led by Ravier Koppenhofer with 27 points and Jazmin McClaine with 22.
