Robert L. Vander Ploeg of Dorr died Tuesday, June 29. He was 73.

He was born on March 14, 1948, and was a 1966 graduate of Wayland High School.

Robert was involved in the Wayland Community for more than 40 years. He worked at Steelcase for 29 years. Robert met his first wife, Kay, in the Harding’s Grocery Store parking lot. Their faith was important to them and was an everyday part of how they lived

He is survived by his children, Connie Berg, Corey (Stephanie) Vander Ploeg, Keith (Margaret) Vander Ploeg; grandchildren Christopher (Linsey) Berg, Megan Berg, Brooke Green, Elizabeth Green, Nathaniel (Christian) Vander Ploeg, Taylor (Matt Idema) Vander Ploeg, Hunter (Griselle) Vander Ploeg, Ron (Sonya) Fifield, Tabitha Vander Ploeg, Hailee Vander Ploeg; great-grandson, Dane; siblings Pat (Seymour) DeHaan, Daryl (Shirley) Vander Ploeg, Kathy Schipper, Kevin (Melanie) Vander Ploeg; sister-in-law, Judy Vander Ploeg; brother-in-law, Duane Austin; and many nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Kay Vander Ploeg; parents Gerald and Florence Vander Ploeg; brother, Rodney Vander Ploeg.

Visitation will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday, July 1, at Kubiak-Cook Funeral Home, Dorr Chapel, 4330 18th St.. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, July 2, at Kubiak-Cook Funeral Home – Dorr Chapel. Robert will be laid to rest at Germond Cemetery next to his wife, Kay.

In memory of Robert and in lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Elara Hospice or Multiple Sclerosis Foundation.
