A fire broke out Thursday morning in a storage area in back of an upstairs apartment above the former Wayland Globe building, now referred to as the Helmey Building. Mandy Sikkema, who is renting the apartment, said she did not know the cause of the blaze, which was quickly extingished by the Wayland, Hopkins and Leighton fire departments. It wasn’t clear is there was any smoke damage to the downstairs area, which is home to the Around the Globe Artist Market.
