Marilyn Schurkamp, age 92, died Saturday, April 26.
Marilyn was born Sept. 14, 1932, in Muskegon, to Edwin and Marcella Workman. She met and married Donald Schurkamp, April 6, 1950. When Don joined the Army, Marilyn stayed with her mother-in-law, Ruby Schurkamp, and found a waitressing job to help with the finances.
As a young married woman, Marilyn became the mother of five daughters, which kept her very busy – from bike riding to rustic camping up north – as Don attempted to build their dream cabin. Once her daughters were grown, Marilyn began to enjoy bingo, crocheting, watching westerns and volunteered at Project Hope in Dorr.
She is survived by one brother, Brian Workman (Ruth); several half-siblings; four daughters Brenda Kool (John), Kay Herp (Jack), Lois Rottier (DJ), and Edwinna Schurkamp; 13 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-granddaughter.
Marilyn was preceded in death by her husband of 64 years, Donald Schurkamp and her daughter, Donna Schurkamp-Sweers.
Visitation will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, April 30, at Kubiak-Cook Funeral Services, 4330 18th Ave., Dorr. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, May 1 at Carlisle United Methodist Church, 1084 76th Street SW, Byron Center, with Pastor Mike Hewitt officiating. Interment will be at Dorr Cemetery.
