Charles F. Stankey, Jr. a member of the 1955 Wayland High School basketball team, died at home on May 5.
He was the starting quarterback on the football team and was a guard on the Wildcat basketball team that went all the way to the state Class C finals. He graduated from Wayland High School in 1956.
Stankey taught at East Kentwood High School for 37 years before retiring. He enjoyed family and friends, sports, ice cream, and woodworking. He was a friendly, cheerful man.
Charles is survived by son Kevin (Betsy) Stankey, daughter Kelle (Jeff) Swanson, 10 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren.
Deann, his wife of 64 years, passed away in December 2024.
His funeral will be at Christ Church (PCA- Breton Road), his home church of many years, at 10 a.m. Saturday, May 24.
