A proposed residential development on Radstock Drive in Dorr Township cleared its first hurdle at the Planning Commission meeting Tuesday night.
Developer Brian DeSmit of Why Nott Ventures presented his proposal for a special use permit to build 20 single-family homes on 17.91 acres in a neighborhood already chock full of residences south of 142nd Avenue.
Despite some neighbors’ concerns about water runoff, DeSmi insisted, “It (the development) doesn’t create a burden for any of the homeowners in the area.”
Some neighbors insisted DeSmith have a retention pond installed. They also predicted traffic increase that will result in another headache.
DeSmit had been before the commission in May, seeking the commission’s recommendation for the project to the Township Board. He asked for permission to install a private road in the subdivision.
However Commission Chairman told him he must include sidewalks and street lights in order for the project to move forward. DeSmit was spared the necessity of curb and gutter.
In other business Tuesday evening, the Dorr Township Planning Commission:
- Approved site plan review application from Kevin Vreugdenhill of First Companies Inc. to construct a multi-tenant industrial building housing business incubators run the Dorr Industrial District. It is located on 12th Street on a 10-acre site with two buildings. It was noted the site includes sewer and water and one residential building.
- Approved site plan review for FCC Construction to construct an industrial repair facility in the Dorr Commerce Center, the industrial park. Commissioner Brian Boot excused himself from deliberations and voting because the applicant is his cousin.
