Watson Township Sexton Mark Simpson Thursday evening told the Township Board he must resign his post soon on orders from his physician.
Simpson has served Watson off and on for nearly a decade. He had to step down temporarily several years ago because he underwent a medical procedure, but he returned some time afterward.
He also was Martin Township Sexton for a short spell.
Simpson told board members he will stay on for a short period to help his successor, but he’s been told by his doctor he cannot continue to perform the duties of the job.
In other business Thursday night at their meeting, Watson board members:
- Approved a request from Robert and Michelle Welcher to rename Kruz Country Drive to Welcher Way. The couple are the only residents on the private road, which goes to Shagnasty Lake, and they earned the blessing of the Allegan County Road Commission.
“It’s a unique request,” remarked Supervisor Kevin Travis. “I’ve never seen this kind of thing before.”
• Rejected a proposal from Eagle View aerial imagery to have aerial pictures taken of Watson Township properties over six years at a total cost of $6,054.78. “I’m a no vote,” said Trustee Michelle Harris. “I just think we’re walking a fine line on big government.”
- Learned that Brady Cole has been elevated from vice chair to chair of the Planning Commission. The new vice chair is Jim Davis.
- Was told the Seven Generations Park project is proceeding near 20th Street and M-222. A new sign is due soon and there hopes the pavilion will be erected before the snow flies. The Planning Commission recently approved the project’s site plan.
- Welcomed an anonymous $5,000 gift to establish a veterans’ fund in the township.
- Approved the budget, which includes seven-tenths of a mill for dust control and roads together.
