Wildcats, Vikings score points at Aquinas meet

Hopkins senior Riley Homrich captured her second first place medal this spring in sprints at the Aquinas High School Indoor Challenge. The Lady Vikings checked in 10th with 19.33 points. Wayland was sixth with 33.5.

Homrich turned in a winning time of 7.82 seconds. Wayland’s Laney Wolf was third at 8.08 seconds.

Wildcat pole vault ace Evie Mathis technically was second in her contest, but the winner was listed as unattached. Mathis cleared 12-6. Teammate Megan Stack was eighth.

Lillian Dewey sixth in the 800-meter run. Agree VaDenbrink sixth in 1600.

Homrich anchored the Vikings’ 800-meter relay quartet that finished eighth, joining Taylie Burgess, Elliott VanderVeen and Andrea Brower.

Wayland was seventh in the 1600-meter relay with Ryleigh Haveman, Wolf, Bre Hoogewind and Megan Brogger. Hoogewind, Haveman, Madison Bumhoffer and VanDenBrink hooked up for seventh in the 3200-meter relay.

Brogger, Marissa Ainsworth, Quinn Reeder and Ayva Mulder finished fourth in the specialty SMR Relay.

Burgess, Claire Fifelski, Miley Runkel and VanderVeen took 10th in that race.

Kaleigh Bonga of Hopkins was fourth in the shot put and Wayland’s Jordan Grevenstuk was 11th.

Wayland’s Gwen Howard was fourth and Peyton Harshberger of Hopkins eighth in the high jump.

Lilli Lakatos was ninth for Wayland in the long jump and Runkel of Hopkins was 10th.

Hopkins was seventh and Wayland 10th in the boys’ competition.

Rounding out the boys’ results:

Wayland took first in the special SMR Relay with Brock Wheeler, Luke Vandezande, Jacob Crater and Jake Reeder. Hopkins was eighth with Austin Evans, Parker Warners, Ryan Martinez and Isaiah Robinson.

Clayton Kerber of Hopkins was runner-up in the 60-meter hurdles and Wildcat Alex Hubbard was eighth.

Wayland’s Xander Stepek was 10th in the 800. Teammate Ethan Manning was ninth in the 1600.

The Wayland 800-meter relay team of Henry Maass, Brock Wheeler Luke Vandezande and Jake Reeder was fourth.

Hopkins’ 1600-meter quartet was fifth, with Isaiah Robinson, Matthew Guzman, Austin Evans and Clayton Kerber. Wayland took 10th with Alex Hubbard, Alaric Benes, Jason Crater and Alberto Mandujundo.

Noah Gibson, Kash Moored and Jack Estelle hooked up for third in 3200-meter relay for Hopkins. Xander Stepek, Ethan Manning, Reese Senneker and Mason Fein finished seventh for Wayland.

Ashton Kuhlman hurled the shot for seventh place for the Wildcats.

Vijay DeZeeuw and Dexter Graczyk went 10 and 11 in the high jump for Hopkins. Luke Klinge cleared an even 12 set for sixth in the pole vault.

Hopkins’ Parker Warners and Wayland’s Justin Springs both cleared 19-9 to finish sixth and seventh in the long jump.
