Royal “Jim” Sebright of Allegan, died Saturday, April 9, at the Wings Home in Allegan. He was 91.
Jim was born June 1, 1924, in Hopkins, the son of Elmer and Lola (Litzenburger) Sebright. Jim was the youngest of five brothers.
He served his country as an artilleryman in the 5th Battalion, 11th Marine Regiment, 1st Marine Division from 1942 to 1945. Jim worked at Rockwell International as a carpenter for more than 30 years, before retiring in 1976.
He enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping and was an avid gardener. He was a skilled woodworker, and loved creating beautiful things from wood, glass, metal, and Petoskey stones. His birdhouses, picture frames, and other creations grace hundreds of homes in the Allegan area and beyond.
On Aug. 31, 1946, he married Pauline Oisten, who preceded him in death in 2013.
He is survived by his three children: Ron and Karen Sebright, Royal “Jim” Jr. and Jacki Sebright, Sheryl and Chris Carter, 5 grandchildren; six great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his infant son, Brian; and his four brothers.
Friends may meet with the family from 2 to 4 p.m. Tuesday, April 12, at the Gorden Funeral Residence, Allegan Chapel, where a memorial service will be held at 4 pm. The family requests that the men wear flannel shirts and jeans or bibs as a final tribute to Jim.
