Wildcat boys, girls both end up 6th in O-K Gold C-C

zuiderveen2emilyThe O-K Gold Conference championship meet was held Tuesday afternoon at Riverside Park in Grand Rapids and Wayland boys completed the meet and the season in sixth place.

The girls’ squad also finished sixth in the league championship meet while GR Christian won it and East Grand Rapids was runner-up.

Coach Raymond Antel III said his Wildcats “ran well in a league that has two top ten teams in the state in Division 2. Grand Rapids Christian won the meet and is ranked second in the state while East Grand Rapids finished second and is ranked seventh…”

The Wildcats finished on the heels of Middleville Thornapple-Kellogg and ahead of Wyoming.

Senior Captain Jonathan Zuiderveen finished 19th in a time of 17:38, meeting his goal of finishing in the top 20.

“He put himself in the hunt and ran strong the entire way,” Antel said.

Freshman, Mitchell Hooker, ran to a personal record time of 17:50, finishing in 21st place. Junior Co-captain Ethan Killips ran 19:23, Gabe Attruia, finished fourth for Wayland with a time of 20:10 while Jarod Geerligs finished fifth in a time of 20:23.

Coming in one after another, Garret Kloska, Ian Russell, and Jacob Jelsema finished in 20:38, 20:40 and 20:41 respectively. Steven Mosher ran the 5k in 21:46, while Senior, Jacob Radmacher ran the race of the evening, running a 20-second PR with a time of 23:02.

Senior Emily Gray led the Lady Wildcats with a 30th-place finish in 21:04.26. Sophomore Zoe Antel was 32nd in 21:08.30, junior Kaitlyn Paul 43rd in 21:46.77, freshman Rylee Cronkright 58th in 22:13.86 and senior Emily Isenhoff 68th in 22:41.3.

The Wildcat boys and girls have at least two meets left. They will run in the Allegan County meet Friday at the Martin Speedway and the following Saturday at Portage for the regional meet.
