Wildcat senior Zack Nieukoop plans to play at Davenport

Wayland senior centezac-nieukoop-cornerr Zack Nieukoop today announced he will attend Davenport University next year and play basketball for the Panthers.

Nieukoop, who also was looking at Ferris State University, will be playing NCAA Division II basketball in the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference, which includes Ferris, Grand Valley, Northwood and Wayne State. At 6-7, he is expected to be a pivot or at least a forward in college.

Nieukoop, who made his announcement on Facebook this morning, has been a four-year starter for coach Mike Hudson’s Wildcats and he has earned a number of all-conference and all-region accolades. He was Wayland’s top scorer and rebounder last season as a junior.

Davenport has a reputation of absorbing Wayland graduates into its athletic program, but the vast majority have been females, including softball pitcher Mallory Teunissen, first sacker Morgan Teunissen, third baseman Haley Obetts, and volleyball stars Amber Getty, Molly Lameyer and Krissy Dill14720549_1516009945092672_2756143806926611937_n.
