Jenison halts Lady Wildcats’ 9-game softball streak

Jenison scored three runs in the bottom of the seventh inning Friday evening to win the nightcap of a doubleheader and halt Wayland’s nine-game winning streak to start the softball season.

The Lady Wildcats won the first game game 6-5 in a nine-inning thriller.

Lauren McCulligh started the game and threw five complete innings allowing nine hits while striking out three. Abby Merice pitched two innings in relief, allowing three hits while striking out two.

Leading the Wildcats offensively were Merice, 2-4 with a home run, a triple and an RBI, and Sydney Urben, 2-4 with a double and two RBIs.

Merice pitched all nine innings in the opener, allowing nine hits and striking out six.

Leading the Wildcats offensively were Bethany Teunissen, 3-4 with an RBI; Leigha Morse, 3-5 with two doubles and three RBIs, and Hunter Fenton, 2-4.

The Wildcats are in action again Tuesday, April 25, for their first home games against O-K Gold Conference rival South Christian.
