Allegan County Sheriff Blaine Koops to retire after 16 years

blainekoopsjpg-20c56212fe7adc03Allegan County Sheriff Blaine Koops told the Board of Commissioners Thursday that he will not seek another term.

Koops is a graduate of Grand Valley State University with a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice and a master’s degree in public administration from Western Michigan University. He has lived in the Hamilton area for most of his life and served on the Holland Police Department, reaching the rank of captain.

He was first elected sheriff in 2000 and was re-elected in 2004, 2008 and 2012, serving four, four-year terms. Koops served for 26 years with Holland Police Department, where he was captain before he took the sheriff’s post.
