Lady Vikings finish 7th in final state MITCA ratings

The Hopkins girls’ varsity Lady Viking seniorstrack team will return yet again to the Michigan High School Track Coaches Association Division 3 state meet May 28, this time ranked No. 7 in the state.

MITCA released its final power rankings this week and the top 12 teams in Divisions 2, 3 and 4 are eligible for the team state meet.

The top team, after a compilation for 17 events, is Ithaca, with 2,987 total points. Clare is second and Adrian Madison third. Hopkins has 2,327.5 points, with its best performances in the sprints, throws and relays.

Hopkins this spring won its own invitational, the Watervliet Relays, the Comstock Invitational and the O-K Silver Conference championship.

In state-wide performances the Lady Vikings are 10th in the 3200 relay; Julia Forbes second in the long jump, tied for third in the 100-meter dash and seventh in the 200; 12th in the 800 relay; eighth in the 400 relay; Laura Velderman 13th in the open 400; Bailey Ballard second in the discus and 18th in the 300-meter hurdles and 20th in the 100 hurdles; Emma Helder 20th in the open 800; Jasmine Fisher 16th in the 3200; 14th in the 1600 relay, and Meghan Schulz 19th in the shot put.

The relay quartets have included Forbes, Velderman, Ballard, Helder, Fisher, Madison Snoeyink, Brittany Houseman, Lexi Merren, Savannah Emaus, Maddie Krcatovich and Josie Freybler.
