Abe Garcia

Incumbents Steven Stepek, and Megan Mickelson were re-elected to their City Council seats Tuesday and former Councilman Abe Garcia regained his seat in a 4-for-3 race.

Garcia won the position that was being vacated by City council member Grace Sefranek, who decided earlier this year against seeking another two-year term.

The fourth candidate, Aubrey Chubb did not earn enough votes.

Garcia is no stranger to the council, having served three two-year terms before being edged out in the 2024 election.

Stepek won his second two-year term and for Mickelson it was her first term, after being appointed last summer.

Hopkins road millage approved

Voters approved a request for a one mill increase for road improvements. The increase will be levied for four years, and will raise an estimated $125,406.66 in the first year.

KISD millage loses here, but approved overall

Residents in the Caledonia and Thornapple Kellogg School Districts voted to reject a millage request for the Kent Intermediate School District by a margin of just four votes. The millage measure would go on to victory district-wide though, with the other Kent ISD school districts voting in favor by a 60% margin.
