Allegan County Emergency Management and Allegan County Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) has announced that 18 volunteers have completed the CERT Basic Training Course offered by Allegan County CERT last month at the Allegan County Sheriff’s Department.
The CERT program educates volunteers about disaster preparedness and hazards that may impact their area. Throughout the course, students learn about individual, family, and community preparedness. They also receive training in basic disaster response including medical, fire suppression, incident command, search and rescue, and disaster psychology.
There is also additional advanced training in animal response, emergency communications, traffic and crowd management, flood response, damage assessment, and firefighter rehab. CERT teams may be called on for all types of different events to help support emergency services and other community events. To find more information about CERT teams, go to www.ready.gov/CERT.
