The Allegan County Health Department Monday reported there have been 40 deaths attributed to the Covid-19 virus since the pandemic began last March.

That figure is seven more deaths than the number announced a week ago and 34 more than what was indicated in September. However, it is only one more than reported last Thursday.

A total of 4,632 cases of the Coronavirus have been reported in Allegan County since March, with 116 hospitalizations and 2,348 regarded as being recovered.

Local schools are still operating on a health department grade of “D,” which is one step above having to resort to all virtual instruction. Hopkins and Wayland are operating on a hybrid system, with half of the students attending in person Mondays and Thursdays and the other half Tuesdays and Fridays. Wednesdays are reserved for all on-line and interventions.

Martin has been undergoing an in-person model five days a week.

However, all high schools in Michigan are operating under virtual learning until Dec. 20 under a state health department order that was announced as extended by 12 more days. Therefore, it’s likely that all high schools in Michigan will be shuttered until early January.
