The number of deaths due to the Coronavirus since last March in Allegan County has climbed to 33 as of Monday, Nov. 30.

The Allegan County Health Department reported there have been 4,089 total cases since the pandemic began in March, with 108 hospitalizations. A total of 1,751 have been announced as recovered from the virus and 420 cases are being monitored currently.

Allegan County was able to avoid the worst of the pandemic throughout most of the spring and summer, but only a couple of months ago the number of cases and deaths spiked. The deaths went from just six in September to 33 now.

Part of the reason for the leap from 26 to 33 deaths was the lull in reporting over the Thanksgiving holiday and weekend.
