West Michigan was placed on a winter weather watch Sunday night, stretching into Tuesday morning. The combination of wind and snow caused white-outs for motorists and this serious accident occurred Sunday evening between the Martin and Shelbyville exits 55 and 59) on the U.S.-131 northbound.
Two vehicles were involved, both had rolled and in the ditch, authorities said. One midsize SUV was still upside down, another large pickup truck that had rolled but wound up upright. Both were in ditch on right hand side of the highway.
Inclement weather forced the closure of Hopkins schools. Wayland and Martin also didn’t have school, but the reason was professional development days.
