To the editor:
A few of my family members and friends have been displaced by the fires in California, and it is bringing back memories of waking up to the sound of the room below me burning and exiting the second story window in when I was in seventh grade.
Maybe that is why this is hitting me deeper than I anticipated. I have a friend who lives in Paradise and had to evacuate. He has put me in contact with the emergency aid volunteers center there and I am sending them a care package.
I would like to know if there are others who want to help. I need to confirm the victims’ greatest needs, but I am thinking warm clothes ranks highest. Initially I planned to send up to 400 to 500 tins of Salve because that is what I can do, but then it brought back memories and became more personal.
My nephew, Julian, his wife and baby now have one of these films escaping the fire. Last I knew he drove a Boxster, so I can feel his adrenaline as he must want to put the peddle to the metal getting his family to safety, yet in a safe way.
