Memorial Day activities in area communities have been scheduled for Monday, May 29, in Wayland,  Martin and Hopkins Township.

The Hopkins Township Memorial Day service will get under way at 10 a.m. at Maplewood Cemetery.

Martin’s Memorial Day parade will start with lineup at 9:30 a.m. at the high school and the procession downtown in the village will begin at 10 a.m., followed by a ceremony at Geib Memorial Park.

Leighton Township will have a flag raising and 21-gun salute at Hooker Cemetery at 8 a.m. Monday.

Wayland’s parade will be changed this year because of road construction project on South Main Street. It will begin, as usual, at the Wayland post of the Michigan State Police post and move southward on Main and then turn right onto West Superior, then right onto Church Street and finish at the City Park, where the ceremony will take place.

In years gone by, the parade ended at the Wayland post of the Veterans of Foreign Wars on South Main.
