DC1A large number of people in the Dorr community Thursday evening came out in support for Brian Augustine of the Allegan County Sheriff’s Department and Dorr Township firefighter David Crowe, both of whom are battling cancer with their  families.

“It was an awesome sight to behold as the line of emergency vehicles lead by about 20 motorcycles from the group Brothers United  went on forever it seemed,” said Dorr Fire Chief Gary Fordham. “And it was an honor for us to accompany law enforcement to visit Brian but was even more special to have Brian and his family ride on the fire truck bus graciously donated by the Lenhart family/New Salem corn maze and accompany us to Dave’s visit. What a night it was honoring our own who so well deserve to know they’re not alone”

Sponsoring the gesture was the Shields of Hope organization.

“Shields Of Hope” is made up of first responders (fire, police, EMS) whose goal is to “spread love, hope and encouragement to those fighting cancer and their families.” They do home visits and like to include local responders as well in hopes of having numerous emergency vehicles participate in a caravan to the residence with their lights on to line their street in a show of support.
