Gov. Gavin Newsom of my old home state of California has said he and the state government need to “Trump Proof” the state, which means to ensure states’ rights over federal control.
After Dobbs v. Jackson (sending abortion laws to the states), we were told that if you believe in states’ rights you are just like the Confederates of the Civil War era. If you believe in the 10th amendment you are not only stupid, but also racist, sexist, homophobic, bigoted jerk; after all, the federal government is a deity to be worshiped.
No fewer than five blue state governors have now promised that if the federal government under President Donald Trump “comes for our people, I will fight.” What a difference an election makes — blue state governors are now in bed with the ghost of President Jefferson Davis of the Confederate States of America and in love with the 10th Amendment, even the Bill of Rights. Miracles do happen.
We were told President Trump was an illegitimate president in his first term because he did not receive the majority of the popular vote. This election he won both the popular vote and the electoral college. Even with an impressive win too big to rig, the progressives are vowing to obstruct and destroy everything President Trump does or tries to do.
Exactly why the Democrats want Iran to have a nuclear weapon or 50 puzzles most folks. It is baffling why they gave billions to Iran and are helping them ship millions of barrels of oil around the world (President Biden’s administration banned Israel from attacking Iran’s oil distribution sites), why they want to fund the ballistic missiles raining down on Israel, why they want to help fund, by an act of omission, Iran selling billions of barrels of oil, missiles killing Ukrainian children and funding terrorism worldwide. Our media will not put the aggressive actions of Iran this way, but it is a fact.
Back to Roe v. Wade. This column maintained some seven years ago that the pro national abortion folks needed to rethink Roe v. Wade. Science, especially DNA, has shown that a growing baby is not a “non-viable tissue mass” as it is called in Roe v. Wade. The progressives need to come up with a more believable reason, as science made Roe an incredibly unenlightened and just plain scientifically incorrect ruling.
An amendment to the Constitution could have passed easily, making abortion legal, but the powers in the progressive movement wanted an issue, not national legalization, and to this day they do not seek an amendment which would pass easily, with over 70% of Americans approving of limited abortion.
When asked why they do not champion a constitutional amendment, they say, “we should not have to.” Well, you need to in a Constitutional Republic with our Bill of Rights in force.
We have yet to see lawfare aimed at President Trump going into high gear. It will, even with the Supreme Court ruling against it. To the credit of the conservatives, they did not indict President Biden for the crimes stemming from the open border policy in his administration. The progressives will not be so logical.
We were told that NATO would be eliminated under President Trump; it’ll never happen. What will happen is that NATO member nations will stop paying Russia billions for natural gas, billions they use to conduct the war against Ukraine, to purchase missiles and drones, to pay North Korea for troops and to bribe NATO leaders with cheaper natural gas. We will see NATO paying their fair share of the cost of defending Ukraine.
What will stop under a President Trump administration is our directly and indirectly funding Iran and our tying Israel’s and Ukraine’s hands behind their backs in defending themselves. My opinion.
