At least 3 candidates have announced intentions to succeed Yonker

Ryan GalloglyThere are at least three candidates already for the 72nd District State Representative’s seat being vacated by Ken Yonker at the end of the year.

Ryan Gallogly appeared before the Leighton Township Board Thursday evening to introduce himself. He is the third Republican Party candidate to announce thus far.

The two other candidates are restaurateur Tony Noto and Kentwood City Commissioner Robert Coughlin.

Gallogly is a social studies teacher and former head varsity football coach at East Kentwood High School. He told Leighton Township officials he lives just across the county line in Gaines Township.

The 72nd District, which includes the City of Wayland and Wayland, Leighton and Dorr townships, has been represented in Lansing by Yonker since January 2011. Yonker is serving his sixth year and now must step down at the end of 2016 because of term limits.

Gallogly said his biggest reason for seeking the office is that, “Education reform is dear to me… and I’m concerned about the future of local control.”
