Martin High School graduate Austin Marsman, 20, has been named to the Michigan Youth Education Fund Board of Directors.

The statewide nonprofit provides grants, scholarships, and awards to deserving students and education professionals.

A spokesperson said, “MYEF is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization focused on giving K-12 students access to experiential learning outside of the classroom. Our organization believes that a fundamental part of education is learning through different academic experiences. Unfortunately, many students are unable to participate in extracurricular activities due to the financial costs associated with events and travel. Here at the Michigan Youth Education Fund, we are breaking down barriers, so that all students are able to participate in the educational activities that will help to advance learning, inspire change, and promote leadership. We believe in coordinating with school districts, teachers, parents, and students to provide the most for our Michigan students.”

Marsman, also a student at Grand Valley State University, is running for a seat on the Martin Board of Education this fall. He is an occasional contributor to Townbroadcast.

“I am honored to be joining this nonprofit in providing opportunities for our students,” said Marsman, “We must support our next generation of skilled trades workers, lawyers, medical professionals, and other members of communities in order to build a stronger Michigan.”
