Michigan State Police from the Rockford post were investigating a shooting incident Sunday morning at the 100th Street exit along U.S.-131 in southern Kent County.

Authorities said the incident occurred around 5 a.m. Sunday and a 26-year-old male victim from Grand Rapids was found suffering from a gunshot wound, and was rushed by ambulance to Metro Hospital with critical injuries.

Investigators working at the scene with an SUV parked on the west side of the southbound traffic lanes. They were trying to determine whether the trouble started at the Fish Ladder Park near US-131 and Fourth St. NW in Grand Rapids. Police have indicated they believe the victim was fleeing after an earlier altercation at Fish Ladder Park.
