Wayland High School math teacher Linda Anderson now can be referred to properly as Dr. Linda Anderson.
A math teacher at WHS since 1997, she has earned her PhD in mathematics from Central Michigan University.
Anderson was selected last year as a Michigan state-level finalist in mathematics for the Presidential Awards for Excellence in Mathematics and Science Teaching program, one of five finalists and automatically a candidate for the Presidential Award reviewed by a national selection committee.
Anderson earned her master of arts degree in from CMU. Before coming to Wayland 19 years ago, she taught mathematics for four years in Evart. She has won a Kathryn L. Brenner Teacher of the Year award, named after the daughter of the Wayland Supt. Robert Brenner.
“I value education and encourage everyone to continue to learn,” Anderson posted on the Wayland schools’ web site.
“I live on a lake and I enjoy running, kayaking, watching sunsets, having bonfires and spending time with loved ones. I generally love being outside.”
Anderson teaches Algebra 2, Advanced Mathematical Concepts and Advanced Placement Statistics at Wayland High School.
“Linda is a master teacher who is dedicated to her students, her profession and her community,” said Wayland High School principal Tom Cutler. “She is an expert in her field and very passionate about her students learning the curriculum in a manner that they can understand — she teaches them to think!”
