Balloonfest overcomes wind for glow, launches

The weather did not cooperate Friday afternoon with Balloonfest’s plans for launching balloons into the air above Calkins Field. The gusty wins caused the launches to be postponed. However, the balloons in the evening provided visual entertainment, as the wind settled down for a glow. And Saturday morning normal activities returned for the fifth annual festival with liftoffs just north of Wayland. Besides balloons in the air, there were many food trucks, a variety of attractions and plenty of musical offerings, including the band Wayland in the evening, featuring former local resident guitarist and vocalist Phillip Vilenski. Among the guests during the day was WOOD-TV meteorologist  Ellen Bacca and her daughter, Piper.
