“Well the shoe goes on the other foot tonight. Gonna find out if two wrongs can make a right.” — George Jones
ACHTUNG: This is not a “fair and balanced” article. It is an editorial by the editor.

I hear tell that in the State Legislature in Lansing, the Democrats are wrong and the Republican are right.
So much for always rooting for one side and never the other, which is one of the main criticisms I’ve faced since I started writing editorials for Townbrodcast.
I hear tell that the Dems are holding up a Republican-sponsored bill to outlaw or restrict possession and use of cell phones in classrooms of public schools.
The GOP has thing one right. I believe most sincerely that one of the biggest problems with our current educational system, besides government interference, is young peoples’ awful penchant for being distracted while in school.
At the risk of painting with a broad brush, too many American teens and pre-adolescents are being lured away from the tasks at hand in the classrooms and instead paying far too much attention to the superficial and silly offerings they find so easily on cell phones.
I sincerely believe that all students cell phones would be squirreled away in their lockers or in a space designated by teachers. They should be limited to using them only after school is dismissed for the day.
Yet the Democrats almost unanimously oppose this bill. And their reasons are flimsy at best.
If there is an emergency that beckons these teens, they should be reached by the phones in the school offices, just as they were in bygone days. Students’ educational days should not be interrupted by superficial concerns. Students should be encouraged in every way to pay attention to the academic material they are offered. And they should not be distracted from the tasks and learning that should be at hand.
The GOP is right. Distracting cell phones and any other device should severely curtailed in the classrooms. And the Democrats have gotten it wrong.
