The Barry County Agricultural Society Fair Board has announced the 2020 Barry County Fair has been canceled because of concerns about COVID-19.

The fair, which has been held in or near Hastings since the 1850s, was scheduled for July 20-25.

“The Fair Board did not make this decision in haste,” the society reported in a press release. “Many components of the fair were taken into consideration. The health and safety of our volunteers, participants and community is our top priority.

“We understand that this is a large part of our summer and will affect our community, sponsors, vendors and families.”

The Barry County Fair for 2021 is planned for July 19-24.

There is no word yet about this year’s Allegan County fair, but it isn’t held until September.
