A benefit barbecue for the Moenke family Tuesday, July 6, has been canceled.

Watson Township Trustee Michelle Harris announced on Facebook, “I‘m very sorry to announce the Big Lake fire benefit dinner scheduled for tomorrow night, Tuesday July 6th, has been cancelled. No known plans for rescheduling at this point.”

Township Attorney Tom Siver told the Watson Township Board last month about his plans to take his three-month bill from the township and use the money to buy for the fund-raising barbecue for the Moenke family, which lost their house to the fire in May.

Attorney Mike Villar of Allegan had agreed to cook the barbecued pork, and fixings such as salads and coleslaw were to be added to the meal for a $10 donation. The dinner was scheduled to take place outside the township hall on 118th Avenue.
