Brewhouse Lanes in Dorr has announced it is closing permanently, but the Five Lakes Brewing Co. and Restaurant will continue to do business.
The bowling establishment, home to the Hopkins High School bowling team, announced its closing on Facebook this morning. Part of the reason for the closure is the COVID-19 pandemic, but there have been widespread reports all over the United States that businesses such as golf courses and bowling alleys are not as popular as in bygone days.
The bowling establishment formerly was known as High Mark Lanes and was part of the strip mall that opened in 1986 along 142 and Avenue in Dorr, but it closed afterward. It was reopened in December 2016 as Brewhouse Lanes, along with the Great Lakes Brewery and Restaurant.
The business had open bowling from Thursday through Sunday until the recent pandemic and it had leagues. It also was host to parties and private events.
Brewhouse’s 20 lanes was home for a wildly successful Hopkins High School bowling program. The Viking boys and girls won numerous conference and regional championships and Brenden Gossman rolled two perfect games and was state runner-up in Division 3. Just a couple of months ago Kennedy Gill fired an impressive 277 for the Lady Vikings.
When asked about what the future is for Hopkins bowling, sources reported they are searching for answers.
The news comes as rumors run rampant that longtime local restaurant Colonial Inn may close permanently as well in the wake of the virus pandemic. The restaurant shuttered in March and donated its food to the local food bank and its future remains uncertain.
How sad and disappointing to read this. Two more reasons for our Governor to unchain Michigan.
