That vacant lot that used to house Wayland Motor Sales soon will be the new home for Broadmoor Motor Sales.

Brothers Matt and Brad Koning plan to open their third used vehicle dealership, service and rental business soon at 159 North Main St., at the corner of West Maple and North Main streets near the downtown. The brothers also own similar businesses in Caledonia and Hastings.

According the business’ web site:

“The history of Broadmoor Motors began in 1955 when Henry Koning opened Koning Car Corner in Grand Rapids and later his son, Ken Koning would start cleaning cars at age 11. By 17, Ken began buying and selling cars. In 1988, Ken moved out to Caledonia to start Broadmoor Motors.

“Since then, Broadmoor Motors has grown steadily with the belief that selling high quality vehicles for a fair price in high quantity was more beneficial than over-inflating prices on fewer sales. It’s in this way that customers of Broadmoor Motors are able to enjoy buying a vehicle in a unique, pressure-free atmosphere.

As Ken did with his father, two of Ken’s own sons, Matt and Brad have followed in their dad’s footsteps at the dealership. They quickly realized that ‘community’ was much bigger than the city they lived in and branched out into the world of Internet and Ebay sales. Working with their dad’s philosophy on car sales and with these tools, they helped propel Broadmoor Motors into the digital age.

“Seeing a need in the community for a local option for car rental, Brad and Matt decided to apply their family’s knowledge of the auto industry to create a car rental company whose goal was to treat each customer to top quality service, transparent pricing and flexibility that’s far too uncommon in the rental industry. In 2010, they opened Broadmoor Rent-a-Car’s doors in Caledonia and with marked success there, they opened a second location in Hastings, Michigan.

“The natural progression for these two different companies was to create one succinct brand, and Broadmoor Motor Group was born. Our intention is to create lifelong customers through our honest, pressure free sales approach, transparent pricing and service bar none. By combining these values and our experience in the auto industry, we believe this local, family-owned and operated business can deliver all of our customer’s needs for Rental, Sales and Service in the West Michigan area, located in Caledonia and Hastings.”

And now Wayland.
