Byron Center woman killed in Salem Township crash

A 27-year-old Byron Center woman was killed Tuesday afternoon in a traffic crash in Salem Township.

Deputies from the Allegan County Sheriff’s Office responded to the crash on 30th Street near 144th Avenue. The woman was traveling eastbound on 144th when she failed to stop at the two-way stop sign and collided with a northbound semi-tractor trailer, causing her Jeep to become lodged under the trailer.

First responders on scene found that she was deceased due to the injuries sustained from the crash.  The driver of the semi-tractor trailer was did not receive any injuries.

Preliminary investigation revealed that disregarding the stop sign was the only factor in the crash.

The deceased female’s name is being withheld until family is notified.

The Allegan County Sheriff’s Office was assisted by Wayland EMS, Salem Fire Department and the Michigan State Police.

    Once again your townbroadcast (online rag) has come through for me. We knew something bad had happened because of the number of police and ambulance vehicles. We thought it would be covered on the local new channel. Nope! Had to wait and read this article.
