Bob GenetskiThough his naJon Campbellme will appear on the Aug. 2 Republican primary ballot, Allegan County Commissioner Jon Campbell is no longer a candidate for Allegan County Clerk-Register of Deeds.

Campbell, a retired officer for the Otsego Police Department, told his collagues on the Allegan County Board of Commissioners Wednesday that he had suspended his campaign, leaving former State Rep. Bob Genetski as the lone Republican candidate for the job. Campbell said he been promoted at the Michigan Department of Licensing and Regulatory Affairs.

The longtime county commissioner said he now is manager of the Occupational Code Enforcement Section, which helps enforce rules that govern licensed professionals. He was hired there earlier this year as a regulation agent investigating accountants.

Genetski, who was 80th District State Rep. from 2009 to 2015, is trying to succeed Joyce Watts as clerk-register of deeds, who has served in that post since 1988 and is retiring.

Former Otsego Township Supervisor Gale Dugan and former Commissioner Willis Sage of Trowbridge Township will compete in the GOP primary Aug. 2 for Campbell’s seat on the County Board.
