Carol Harmon dies in Dorr at age 72

Carol Ann Harmon, died Sept. 8, in Dorr. She was 72.

Born in Grand Rapids, on Nov. 12, 1953, Carol’s infectious laughter has been spreading delight for nearly 72 years. She waged a valiant and dignified battle against cancer, facing it with the same humor and grace that characterized her entire life.

Carol was the cherished wife of Henry Harmon, her partner in crime and laughter. Together, they raised a troupe of Harmon comedians: Wendy (Jordan) Austin, Opal (Rudy) Oaxaca, Eric (Sara) Harmon, and Cathy Harmon. Each of her children inherited her quick wit and the uncanny ability to make others smile.

As an adoring grandmother, Carol’s humor and love blossomed with her grandkids, Holly, Adeline, Levi, Maddie, James, Allison, Rudy, Mayan, Alexis (Luke, great grandson)and Aviana (Corey). She was their biggest cheerleader, whether at races, mud runs, or simply life’s many hurdles.

She took the title of “awesome grandma” seriously, often being the mastermind behind the most epic and memorable family cookouts.

Professionally, Carol spent her career in home health care, where she didn’t just care for people; she brightened their days with her humor and compassion. Her patients often said they healed faster from laughter than medicine when Carol was around.

Carol’s interests weren’t limited to making her family and patients laugh; she was an avid supporter of her family’s adventurous endeavors. She was the loudest and proudest on the sidelines, cheering on her family during races and mud runs.

Carol’s life was a master class in finding the joy in every moment, and she would want us to celebrate her journey with laughter rather than tears.
