Celebration of life for Elvie Stein is Jan. 10 in Wayland

A celebration of life for Elvie Carroll Stein, Jr., formerly of Wayland, will be held at the Windsor Woods Community Building from 1 to 4 p.m. Jan. 10.

Elvie “Butch” Caroll Stein Jr. died Nov. 27. He was 65. Butch was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, son, brother, and friend.

Butch dedicated much of his professional life to Consumers Energy, serving as a supervisor and spending most of his career at the Campbell plant, as well as time at the Craven plant in New Bern, N. C. He was highly respected by colleagues and known for his strong work ethic, leadership and unwavering commitment.

Outside of work, Butch found joy in the meaningful moments of life. He loved summers at the cottage near Higgins Lake, where he made countless memories with his grandchildren, and he cherished winters spent in Florida with Tammy. Whether traveling together, watching his sons succeed in sports and in life, or relaxing by the water with family, Butch made the most of every moment.

He is survived by his wife, Tammy, and their children: Josh Stein, along with Josh’s children Wyatt, Trenton, Nora, Ethel, and Lulu; and Jeremy and Hannah Stein, along with their daughters Kensie and Grace. He is also survived by his mother, Phylis Cameron, his mother in law, JoAnne Carpenter; his sisters Pam (John) Johnson, Debbie Villarreal, and Pat Landon; his brother Brian (Starr) Cameron; his brothers in law, Robert (Yvonne) Carpenter and Gary Carpenter; and his loyal dog, Shay.

He was preceded in death by his father, Elvie Sr.; his brother, Micheal Stein; his brother-in-law, Dennis Landon; and his father in law, Lyle Carpenter.
