Lori Ann Ames, age 67 of Wayland, died Thursday, Feb. 1.
Lori was born April 18, 1956, in Grand Rapids, one of six children to the late Frances (Slagter) VanAllsburg and Lawrence VanAllsburg.
Lori was a hardworking, loving, strong, and independent woman. She dedicated her life to raising her daughter, Sara Ames, and taking care of her mother in her final years. Lori had a deep love for animals, with horses and cats being her favorites.
She enjoyed watching her brother, Ray, race at Berlin Raceway, drag-racing at Mid Michigan Motorplex, and going camping and hiking in the UP with Jay. Crafting was another passion of Lori’s; she loved creating gifts and household items for the people she loved.
Lori was preceded in death by her mother, Frances VanAllsburg; father, Lawrence VanAllsburg; boyfriend, Jay Henderson; and sisters Debra and Sandra VanAllsburg; as well as her brothers Theodore and Bruce VanAllsburg.
Lori will be lovingly remembered by her daughter, Sara Ames; grandchildren Maverick Bradley, Camden Keely, Karter Stott, Kyler Stott, Keyleigh Jones and Rylan Price, as well as her sisters Cheryl Murray and Wendy Groeneveld; brother, Ray VanAllsburg; five nephews, five nieces, 11 great-nephews, five great-nieces; and many friends and extended family members.
In accordance with her wishes, Lori will be cremated, and a celebration of her life will be planned at a later date.
