Sharon (Houck) Couturier died Wednesday, Jan. 20. A graduate of Wayland High School, she was 65.

Sharon was born on March 1, 1955  to Arthur and Gladys (Slater) Houck in Grand Rapids. She was a graduate of the Davenport College Histologic Technician program, serving for many years as histology technician for  health care systems such as  Spectrum Health and Quest Diagnostics, as well as traveling per diem in multiple states in the U.S.

She was an inspiration to those who knew her as a friend and colleague in her profession. Sharon was generous, by nature, strong in her Christian faith and put her family and close friends above herself. She was a devoted daughter, faithful wife, loving mother and grandmother, and friend to all.

Sharon was known for her devotion, loyalty, stubbornness and the ability to knit dishcloths.  She had a fierceness for her family, especially her parents, children and grandchildren.

Sharon was preceded in death by her parents, step-father Dorsey Yates and great friend, Howard Thomas, Sr.

It was Sharon’s wish to forego a traditional funeral. She asked for, instead, an informal gathering of loved ones Friday, June 25, at Hunter’s Glen Clubhouse, at 1132 Hunters Glen Blvd. Guests are welcome to bring photos and share fond memories.

Refreshments will be provided. This event will be an open house from 4 to 9 p.m.Family asks that guests RSVP by June 18, 2021.

Sharon’s remains will be laid to rest at 2 p.m. Saturday June 26, with a short grave-site prayer at Evergreen Cemetery, located in Benona Township, Shelby, Mich. The family welcomes anyone who wishes to attend.

The Celebration of Life event date is subject to change due to pandemic restrictions.
