Celebration of Life June 8 for Sandra Harrison, 75

Sandra Lee Harrison, 75, of Wayland, died after a lengthy illness Wednesday March 21, at her winter home in St James City, Fla.

Sandy was born Aug. 19, 1942, in Kalamazoo, to Arnold and Mabel Doornhaag. She married Paul Harrison on July 13, 1976, he survives.

Sandy and Paul owned Harrison’s True Value Hardware stores in Parchment, and Gun Lake. They worked long hours as they devoted themselves to growing the business, eventually focusing on the store in Gun Lake. Eventually, Paul and Sandy also owned and operated Harrison’s Marina at Gun Lake. In 1999, Paul and Sandy retired to focus on their love of boating as a hobby instead of a profession and divided their time between Michigan and Florida.

Besides her husband, Sandy is survived by her daughter, Cheri (Steve) VanSickle of Middleville; two step daughters, Pam (Doug) Roberts of Peoria, Illinois, Emily (Kirk) Sripinyo of Falls Church, Virginia; six grandchildren, Josh VanSickle (fiancee Kendell Goosen), Jeremy VanSickle, Ryan (Mykenzie) Roberts, Brad Roberts, Logan Sripinyo, and Cassie Sripinyo; two brothers, Bill (Laura) Doornhaag of Delton, and Dan (Dawn) Doornhaag of Martin; one sister, Jackie Doornhaag of Hilton Head, South Carolina; step mother Bobbi Doornhaag of Gobles; step sister Joni Mory of Gobles and several nieces and nephews and their children. Sandy’s beloved dogs and constant companions, Snickers and Sam, also survive.

Sandy was preceded in death by her parents.

Cremation services have been accorded. A celebration of life service will be held June 8. Graveside services will be held at 11:30 a.m. at Yankee Springs Cemetery in Hastings. This will be followed by a luncheon to be held at 1 p.m. at the VFW Hall in Wayland.
