There will be a memorial celebration to honor the life of Judy Karen (McBride) Nance from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday, June 14, at Yankee Springs Golf Course.

Ms. Nance died Dec. 17 at age 67 at Metropolitan Hospital due to complications from COPD.

She was born Sept. 29, 1947, in Allegan and graduated from Wayland Union High School in 1964, and from the University of Arizona with a bachelor’s degree in education. She spent many years living in Tucson, and Kent and Seattle, Wash., before returning to Wayland in the early 2000s to care for her aging parents and to be near family.

Ms. Nance served in the Peace Corps in Liberia, Africa for three years in the mid-1980s. This sparked a lifelong interest and passion for African culture.

She is survived by her brother Dennis Ray (Pauline) McBride, also of Wayland, nieces Andria Rene McBride, Carrie Lyn (Luis) Vasquez, and Katie Ryan (Ezekiel “Zeke”) Fletcher and nephews Mark Allen (Amanda Reel) and Adam Michael McBride, many great nieces and nephews and one great-great nephew.

She was preceded in death by her parents Betty Lou (Walker) and Bernard Carrol McBride and her brother Michael David McBride.
