Former Deputy Fire Chief Terry Lee Baumgard of Wayland, died Saturday, Dec. 19. He was 73.

Terry retired from Dean FWayland FDoods as a maintenance superintendent after working there for 34 years. He had volunteered with the Wayland Fire Department for 28 years, where he served as the assistant chief.

Terry loved to hunt and was a hard worker but more than anything he cherished time spent with his family.

He is survived by his wife Sharon Baumgard; his children: Ann Baumgard, Kimberly Baumgard, Donna (Douglas) Thomas, and Scott (Allyson) Baumgard; his grandson Terry Thomas; his brothers: Carroll (Juanita) Eddy, Steve (Connie) Eddy, Wayne (Wilma) Eddy, Everett Batton, and Roger Batton; his sisters: Joyce (David) Gutberlet, Peggy Westbrook, and Jeannie (Donald) Henthorn; his brothers-in-law: Joe (Ruth) VanDen Berg and Michael (LuAnn) Selzer; his sisters-in-law: Patricia Miller, Marilyn Rewa, Sandra (William) Nieboer, and Penny (Jeff) Bauer; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Wanda Batton, and his grandson, Clayton Thomas.

A celebration of life memorial gathering will be held from 2 to 5 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 2, at the Wayland VFW Post # 7581, 735 South Main. Donations in memory of Terry may be made to Wayland Fire Department or the American Cancer Society.
