Dean Berends, 57, of Shelbyville, formerly of Moline, died Sunday, July 24.
Dean was born on Aug. 1, 1958, the son of Ernest and Rozza (Michael) Berends. Dean enjoyed spending his free time with his dogs and grandchildren, fishing, camping and tinkering on engines.
He is survived by Laura, his wife of 21 years; his puppies, Shelby and Star; his children Erik (Dawn) Haveman, Sarah (John) Send, Mark (Angie) Stauffer, Amber (Jim) Browneye; his grandchildren, Dominic, Jocelyn and Hunter, Nolan and Carter, Parker and Tyler, Olivia and Emily; his brothers, Dan (Val) Berends, Don (Cheryl) Berends, Dick (Linda) Berends; his sister, Judy Draaisma and many nieces, nephews and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother, David Berends, and his dogs Midnight and Shadow.
Visitation with his family will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday, July 28, at Kubiak-Cook Funeral Services, Dorr Chapel, 4330 18th Street. His Celebration of Life will be at 11 a.m. Friday, July 29. A graveside service will follow at Dorr Cemetery.
Donations in memory of Dean may be made to his family for medical expenses. Charitable donations may be made to Dean’s family to help with his medical expenses.
