David Earl “Bobcat” Schwartz, 71, of Hopkins, died Thursday, May 11, at University of Michigan Health West.

Born Jan. 12, 1952, in Grand Rapids, he was the son of the late Elwood George and Eleanor (Feenstra) Schwartz.  Dave had farmed throughout his life, owned R-D Tree Removal with his brother for many years, then started his own company, Dave’s Stump Grinding, that he continued to operate while working at and retiring from Sebright Products.

Any given day you could find Dave in his barn either helping friends fix their vehicles, rebuilding an engine, tinkering on his Bobcats or enjoying a cold Busch Lite.

David is survived by his daughters, Lisa Schwartz and Mindy (Bill) Teunissen; sisters, Bette (Jim) Stewart and Shirley (Rob) Smith; sister-in-law, Cindy (Howard) Hunt; grandchildren, Brett, Bree, Ana, Ava and Clayton; many nieces, nephews and extended family and friends.

Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Richard Schwartz; and his beloved dogs, Shadow, Peanut and Sasha.

A celebration of life will take place from 3 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, May 24, at Burnips Township Hall, 3003 142nd Ave.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Schwartz family to assist with expenses.
