Longtime Wayland High School softball coach Cheri Ritz this week was inducted into the Grand Rapids Area Athletic Hall of Fame this week in a special ceremony. She becomes the second WHS graduate to be included on the list of honorees, with her niece, Jessica Merchant, being the first. Ritz graduated from Wayland in 1977, came back to teach physical education, was athletic director and coached softball, tennis and volleyball. Her 2006 and 2015 Wildcat softball teams were Division 2 state champions. She is shown here being interviewed by WOOD-TV sports Channel 8 broadcaster Jack Doles.
