The Wayland City council Tuesday night approved three new members on the Downtown Development Authority — Gordon Thompson, Elizabeth Stein and Aaron Lewis.

Thompson is owner and operator of OpenRoad Brewery, and seeks to make the community better. Stein works for Wayland Union Schools, and wants to bridge the gap between the community and the school. Lewis is the pastor of Peace Church, and want to contribute to the economic and social health of Wayland.

The DDA still has one position left open. City officials are seeking to fill that position soon.

Water, and some issues with it, seemed to be the main focus of the City Council meeting

  • The city approved purchasing a generator for the water well. They also approved the installation of natural gas lines for the well generator. City Manager Erik Wilson pointed out that the generator was a more cost-effective option than to build a new water tower.
  • The council also approved funding for a Water Reliability study to be done.
  • Brik Plumbing was awarded the job of replacing the lead service lines. The lines will be replaced over time, while street projects are being done.
  • It was announced that most of the new water meters are in. Residents will be receiving letters about replacing their water meter by late September, or early October.

Council also heard from resident and former City Councilman Tim Rose, who requested that the council address the use of side-by-sides in the city. He said he is concerned about the accidents he has seen involving them.

Nancy Whitley asked the council to get behind, and attend the “Lock your Guns” meeting. Mayor Jennifer Antel stated that she had been attending, but would like to assign a committee member to attend future meetings.
